Β I jumped into this one, not having read book one, and wow!Β
Investigator Shana Merchant has been through a nightmare. Abducted by serial killer Blake Bram, who chose to let her live for some reason, she now finds that heβs playing with her once again.
Shana is hoping to start over and be cleared to work again after leaving the NYPD. Just when sheβs feeling confident again, human remains are found in her hometown in Vermont.
When it turns out that the body is that of Shanaβs uncle, who disappeared years ago, Bram makes the rules of the game apparent: solve her uncleβs murder or he will take an innocent boyβs lifeβ¦ itβs all on her. She begins to question family and friends, searching for clues but finding shocking information about her own past.
This is what a psychological thriller should be. Of course, you have that cat and mouse game between killer and prey. But then throw in past trauma, family ties, and small-town affairs, and youβve got one tense, twisted mess. And with that ending, Iβm excited for book three!
