At this wondrous resort, secrets can easily be hidden in plain sight when the eye is trained on beauty.

April 1913โ€”Belle Newbold hasnโ€™t seen mountains for seven yearsโ€”since her father died in a mining accident and her mother married gasoline magnate, Shipley Newbold. But when her stepfatherโ€™s business acquaintance, Henry Ford, invites the family on one of his famous Vagabonds camping tours, she is forced to face the hills once againโ€”primarily in order to reunite with her future fiancรฉ, owner of the land the Vagabonds are using for their campsite, a man sheโ€™s only met once before. She only wants a simple lifeโ€”a family of her own and the stability of a wealthy manโ€™s pockets. Thatโ€™s what Worth Delafield has promised to give her, and itโ€™s worth facing the mountains again, the reminder of the past, and her poverty, to secure her future.

Belle is unexpectedly thrust into a role researching and writing about the building of the innโ€”a construction the locals are calling The Eighth Wonder of the World. As Belle peels back the facade of Grove Park Inn, of Worth, of the society sheโ€™s come to claim as her own, and the truth of her heart, she begins to see that perhaps her part in Grove Parkโ€™s story isnโ€™t a coincidence after all. Perhaps it is only by watching a wonder rise from ordinary hands and mountain stone that she can finally find the strength to piece together the long-destroyed path toward who she was meant to be.

A beautiful and vivid story – do the mountains call to you?

I quickly became engrossed with this Victorian thriller as Constance Sullivan was taken away from her beautiful home and children to be thrown in a filthy prison on charges of poisoning her husband. But I was even more intrigued when I learned an actual case inspired this book!ย

Constance is to stand trial for murdering her husband, William, a man widely known for taking arsenic as a medicinal supplement. But all the evidence points to Constance; even the help and those she once trusted have turned against her. Yet someone knows the truth.

I found this story haunting and chilling, yet I could not set it down; I had to know what really happened. The case involves infidelity, betrayal, revenge – it felt like a tangled web and I wasnโ€™t sure how Constance and her barrister were going to fight through it.

The author aptly captures the horrific prison conditions and the darkness within Constance and Williamโ€™s marriage and gives a little historical insight into the bizarre uses of arsenic during Victorian times.

Atmospheric, eerie, and unnerving – a great read.

A debonair billionaire, a grumpy sheep farmer, and a swarthy Jacobite ghost โ€ฆ no, this isnโ€™t the start of a joke, but Innis Breeโ€™s male prospects!

Innis has had a string of bad luckโ€”she was fired from her job and left at the altar. But thatโ€™s not going to stop her from enjoying her honeymoon in Scotland, even if itโ€™s alone. Innis wants to explore her ancestry, but she soon uncovers a 300-year-old mystery in her family.

To make things even more interesting, Innis finds herself thrust into the middle of a romance with the three gentlemen mentioned above, and yes one is a ghost.

Is there such a thing as a cozy Highland romance? Because that’s how Iโ€™d describe this book. I havenโ€™t read a ton of Highland romances, but my feeling is that with Innis Bree, you have to be willing to have some fun and not take things too seriously. The story is entertaining, with mystery, a ghost, romance, and, of course, an enchanting setting.

Thank you @bookmarked for this gifted copy.

This took me a few chapters to settle into, but then I was hooked!

I love a good family drama and ๐๐ž๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ฎ๐ซ๐š is a dark tale of vengeance, murder, and magic in one ancient Egyptian Royal family.

Neferura is the daughter of the great woman Pharaoh, Hatshepsut. While Neferura is the princess and high priestess, she is made to serve her evil half-brother, Thutmose.

There is never a dull moment in this family โ€“ poisonings, infidelities, betrayals, and more murders. Neferura tries to stop her power-hungry half-brother from rising to the coveted position of Pharaoh by taking down her mother. Neferura sacrifices much and risks her own life, but the question is: who can she trust, who is an ally, and who is an enemy?

Besides all the family drama, there are politics and intrigue, plus you are immersed in the world of ancient Egyptology and mythology. It is not surprising that the little details of Egypt set this book apart since the author holds a Ph.D. in ancient Egyptian history.

It takes courage to live out your faith boldly, especially in the face of hostility or suffering. What gave Joshua and Caleb the courage to follow Godโ€™s commands despite fear? What gave Esther the courage to risk her life and trust Godโ€™s plan for His people? What gave the disciples the courage to live out their faith, even to the point of being martyred? They leaned into a greater fear, one that conquers all othersโ€”the fear of the Lord.

In Everyday Courage, respected Bible teacher, speaker, and bestselling author John Bevere reminds us through Scripture, devotions, and examples from the fathers and mothers of the faith that we, too can live with courage because the fear of the Lord swallows up every other fear in our lives.

Each entry offers:

  • A Bible passage to help you discover how to fear Godโ€”and why the fear of the Lord is your ultimate source of strength
  • A thoughtful reflection on the dayโ€™s Scripture
  • Stories of biblical figures and other heroes of the faith who lived courageously
  • A powerful prayer to seek courage every day

I love a good dysfunctional family story, and the Gimmelmans are hilarious, rebellious, and surprisingly endearing.

Narrated by 12-year-old Aaron Gimmelman, we get the inside scoop on how his family went from being upper-middle-class to outlaws on the run from the FBI in an RV.

I loved this family. Aaron and his sisters are thrown into a life of crime before even graduating high school. Barry Gimmelman, once a stockbroker, now a bank robber, takes his family on the run to Florida to hide out in a Jewish community.

This story has a little bit of everything: road trip adventure, mystery, family drama, and even a good old heist. But what stood out to me was the sparkling mix of humor and warmth. Thrown in are plenty of โ€˜80s references and a backdrop of Jewish heritage and tradition.

I had so much fun listening to this one. And the audiobook is the way to go; the narrators did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life.ย

Bodie King is a con man, a very charming one at that. He is always on the hunt for the next best thing. Right now, itโ€™s the Bennetto chess set. But he needs someone who can authenticate the pieces that have been scattered around. Luckily, Gracen Winthrop, who has just been hired as an antique shop curator, knows her stuff.

The two do not have quite a romantic meet cute, but when they meet, sparks ignite. But Iโ€™m not sure if it’s from their chemistry or the verbal spars and daggers theyโ€™re throwing.

The wit and laughs only increase as the two set out for Italy to find the missing pieces. I loved Gracenโ€™s feisty grandma, and the twists and turns the story takes add mystery and intrigue.

This is a closed-door romance with some sexy kisses, but the banter and fun made it highly entertaining.

When her daughter Eden came home from the hospital, Lucy was profoundly relieved. Eden had survived a drowning incident and had no apparent brain damage, no serious injuries, not even a scratch on her. Lucy fervently welcomed having a second chance at being the good mother she should have been before her teenagerโ€™s accident.

Until Eden tells her that Eden isnโ€™t her name. Until she starts calling herself Eli. The name Lucy had reserved for Edenโ€™s unborn twin.

Donโ€™t worry, says the doctor. Eden is completely fine, says her husband. Of course Iโ€™m fine, Eden says, with that strange new smile of hers. I didnโ€™t die. Iโ€™m here.

But Lucy knows somethingโ€™s very wrong with Eden. Sheโ€™s not her maddening, complicated teenage girl anymoreโ€”this straight-backed, even-tempered, steady-eyed child in her house is someone else entirely. Eden, it seems, is the twin who disappearedโ€ฆ

On Christmas Day, 1991, Mikhail Gorbachev delivered a ten-minute televised speech announcing his resignation as Soviet president. Moments later, with little pomp and less circumstance, the red flag was lowered from its floodlit perch atop the Kremlin, and the Soviet Union ceases to exist.

Into the vacuum–before a new democracy has time to put down roots–surged the Russian mafia, supplying what the new state could not: krysha, or “roof”–protection for the privately owned businesses sprouting up across the country. Rivalries turned bloody as Moscow’s Jewish mafia battled the Ossete vory v zakone (literally “thieves-in-law”) for control of the city. Caught up in the mayhem, Yulia, only daughter of the Jewish mafia godfather, and Roman, only son of the Ossete mafia godfather, navigated the minefield of a star-crossed love affair as they attempt to escape a destiny that appears preordained.

Most of us may find something to relate to in ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐ž ๐‹๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ. I know I did.ย

Olivia is in that phase of life where she is putting everyoneโ€™s needs ahead of her own; maybe she has all along. Sheโ€™s a mom and a wife, but sheโ€™s lonely and feeling down.

Patricia is Oliviaโ€™s next-door neighbor, and sheโ€™s a top town realtor. Although Olivia finds Patricia rude and abrasive, she also feels Patricia has her life together. So when Patricia offers her a job as her assistant she grabs it.

The story becomes twofold: a self-discovery journey and a stressful but emotional friendship story. Patricia tells Olivia about the โ€œMe Listโ€ – things she wants to accomplish each year to push herself to do. Olivia begins her own list – time to think about herself. But, as she and Patriciaโ€™s relationship changes from employer/employee to maybe friends, things get messy.

This was a very realistic read. As I mentioned, the characters and what they were going through: marriages falling apart, a sick parent, caring for children, addictions, money issues, etc., made them flawed but relatable. Sometimes, I found Patricia a little too toxic, but Olivia was a saint. I appreciated that both women admit that friendship does not come easy to them, but you can see that, in the end, itโ€™s something worth working for.
