Dear Reader,

My name is Luke Edgewood, and there are few things in life that I require. Mainly black coffee. And flannel. And lots of solitude. And my dogs, Chewy and Indie. What I don’t need is romance, so I have no plans to change my thirty-year-old bachelor status anytime soon.

But my youngest sister thinks that by accepting a short-term construction job in the small European country of Skymar, I’m going to follow along in her footsteps and discover my own romantic adventure. Nope. Bah humbug. The End. This time, her rom-com-movie senses are totally wrong.

Or maybe not. Because I’ve met a Grace Kelly look-alike who is annoying . . . until she isn’t. But she is impossible. As in, nothing can happen between us because she is a literal princess. Even though that’s easy to forget when we’re working together to restore a castle-like orphanage in a secluded mountain town and “forced proximity” includes a small closet, a secret one-hundred-year-old journal, and the tactile memory of an off-limits royal in my arms.

Basically, the whole situation has turned into an ooey gooey magical snow globe of romantic tropes complete with cute kids and an actual ball. Now, even my sentences are starting to sound like mush. Ugh. Send high levels of testosterone my way—I’m going to need it.

I can’t resist a book that starts, “Once upon a time…”

I found this to be a cute, clean romance. I loved that Prince Odin and Lady Camille met years ago and had an insta-love moment. But time and distance seemed to sever their love story.

Years later, Prince Odin goes on a reality TV show called 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑢𝑖𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑒, looking for a wife. He didn’t get the girl – can you imagine a handsome prince not winning the girl? Instead, he comes home to find it has been arranged that he marry Lady Camille of Saint Pierre. 

Watching these two interact as they come back together after years of separation was fun, especially because Camille was not exactly happy with how Odin handled things.  Although a slow burn, Odin and Camille grow as individuals and a couple, making this a true second-chance romance. 

The story has a unique feel with archaic 18th-century French rules and traditions, two made-up countries, yet a contemporary setting. Great secondary characters, like Odin’s brothers, Camille’s friends, and Camille’s dog, Betty White, make this a sweet, modern, fairy-tale-esque romance.

I fell in love with Rachel Linden’s writing when I read 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐬. She writes characters with such heart and soul – and swirls in a touch of magic to give just the right sense of wonder and charm.

This is such a sweet, fresh romance and a fun poke at Disney and the fairy tale promises of the “happily ever after.” 

Scottie Holiday was left at the altar and abandoned by her mother at six years old. Now she is left wondering if all that magic and those promises from the Kingston Company (a huge entertainment company, like Disney) she grew up on were really all lies.

Scottie hires her best friend and lawyer to sue the Kingston Company for false advertisement and emotional distress. But she never expected her possible Prince Charming to be the formidable defense attorney for the Kingston Company. 

I loved Scottie’s character; she desperately wanted to see the good in people, even though she had been hurt. Her inner dialogue was so funny. I loved all the talk of Disney, er, I mean, Kingston Princesses and Princes. Although this is light on the romance, it offers courtroom drama, family drama, and some thought-provoking parallels to the entertainment world and how it affects our expectations.

Do you love small-town romances? I do! And Harvest Hollow and their annual fall festival made the perfect cozy setting for two best friends to reunite.  

Hazel and Tripp have been friends since middle school, but they’ve been apart for years, during which time Tripp has been away, becoming Dr. Tripp Sharpe. But now he has returned to their quaint little town of Harvest Hallow. 

Sure, Tripp and Hazel have kept their friendship alive through texts and phone calls, but something starts changing when they are face-to-face or even lips-to-lips! 

This is such a cute friends-to-lovers romance. It’s very sweet and clean, but that doesn’t mean you don’t feel the tension between these two. Plus, it’s nice reading about a guy who dotes on the girl. 

It’s also a great story about returning home with a warm sense of community, and there’s a ton of fun and humor to get you laughing.

I listened to this on audiobook thanks to @librofm and it was so delightful! If you love stories told through emails, text messages, and other correspondences you will have a blast with this. Penelope is quirky but such a ray of sunshine! At first, I thought this was going to be all fun and games (theater too of course), but there are some very poignant points. Find out if Penelope gets her HEA!
