Where are all my #Buffy fans?

Okay, true fact I’ve never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I do not live under a rock, so I kinda know the basis of her story. Anyway, my lack of vampire pop culture did not stop me from thoroughly enjoying this book!

Frankie Rosenberg is the next generation of slayers. She has big shoes to fill taking on the leadership role that Buffy once filled, but Frankie is her own slayer, and she is the first-ever slayer-witch.

Sunnydale has been rebuilt after an epic explosion that took many of their slayers and friends. Just as Frankie and the Scooby Gang are trying to regroup, the Hellmouth is reawakened causing all sorts of chaos. Looks like Frankie is going to have to kick some demon butt to save her friends – but maybe it’s her they’re after.

The Scooby Gang is a mix of all sorts of paranormal creatures. But of course, being a vampire fan, Spike is one of my favorites. He’s the vampire who had fallen for Buffy and is now missing her – still hoping she may be alive in some dimension.

So besides slaying demons and evil forces, there are fun romantic pairings, all with a little angst. I mean inter- paranormal- dating has got to be tough, right? The book ends with Frankie having proven she’s a fearless slayer, but she’s on the precipice of greater things – both in life and love.

This was such a fun love triangle romance. Don’t be put off by “love triangle” if that’s usually not your thing, because it’s not Zahra’s thing either!

Zahra, a Bengali princess living in Jersey, is trying to earn money so that she can take writing classes, as she wants to be a writer, but her mother is convinced she just needs a good love match.

Her mother and the auntie network plan and scheme to set Zahra up with Harun, a wealthy, nerdy, but very cute boy. But Zahra finds herself falling for Nayim, the new dishwasher at the tea shop she works at.

Harun and her devise a plan to convince everyone that they aren’t a good match, which includes fake dating. As the two spend time together though, her feelings get very mixed up as to which boy her heart desires.

I loved the descriptions of the Bengali community, family, and culture woven into the narrative. This is a clean, sweet, romance that hits on being true to yourself and not rushing into love.
