If anyone thinks Young Adult books arenโt powerful and emotional and are afraid to discuss some of the most important topics – you havenโt read Robin Roeโs books.
Iโll admit I wasnโt quite prepared for the amount of emotional and physical trauma fourteen-year-old Julian must endure. But ๐ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฌ displays how we never know what people, especially children, are going through at home.
After losing both his parents, Julianโs guardianship is granted to his abusive uncle. Julian only has one friend, Adam, and Adam is a senior and popular – whereas Julian isโฆ awkward and quiet.
This book so acutely portrays how teachers, classmates, etc, just assume Julian is odd instead of beaten, broken, and hiding things to save his life, literally.
Adam senses something is off with Julian; the world needs so much more of his genuine kindness and care!
**TW: emotional and physical abuse
Thank you @letstalkbookspromo and @robinroewriter for this gifted book.
This book had me thinking about things, and then with some of the horrible things in the news over the weekend – I really felt overwhelmed.
