Josie was a Hollywood actress, living the life in L.A. until she had a mental breakdown on-set. Now with insomnia and memory lapses, she heads back home, to the small town where she grew up, hoping for time to recover.

Josie takes a job at her old high school, teaching acting classes. But on her morning run, Josie discovers one of her students dead at the bottom of the water tower.

I enjoyed this mystery – since the dead girl is the daughter of a senator, the case is closed up quickly for optics – even with no clear answers. But Josie keeps digging, getting herself deep into trouble.

I liked that the story mixes in some very relevant topics – like the danger of fentanyl. The small-town feel is done well; in fact, it had a bit of a claustrophobic vibe, as people were up close and too familiar with each other. You didn’t know who to trust – 𝘢 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘥𝘦𝘣𝘶𝘵.

Thank you @suzyapprovedbooks and @amypcomedy for a spot on tour and a gifted book.
