Gabriela Domenici and her boyfriend, Daniel Red Deer, are out for a hike in the beautiful wilderness of Still Water Chasm. They come upon a trail that takes them to a construction site – where huge equipment is clearing all the trees.
As they continue on the trail, they come across a dying man, lying next to a dead woman. Gabriela and Daniel run off to get help, but when they return the two bodies are gone – along with all their belongings.
Gabriela is urged by the police not to get involved with the investigation of the bodies, but this local librarian is too curious. When she does her Library Outreach program in a neighboring town, Gabriela meets some interesting people – an herbalist and her friend who wants an old drawing authenticated so she can make money to leave an abusive husband.
Despite Danielโs warning, Gabriela helps her new library friends and soon sheโs in danger – sheโs up against people who will hurt anyone who gets too close to the truth.
I enjoyed the atmosphere of Still Waters Chasm and Gabriela quickly endeared herself to me – I mean a sleuthing local librarian – how perfect. The story offers charm and wit, but it has plenty of suspense and chills.
